4 Organizing Hacks That Actually Work!

Organizing Hacks1 600x600 1

Hey y’all!

Having a space we love to be in takes some work on our end. And that is why I am here — to help! Your home and the spaces that may need a little TLC within it do not have to continue to be the drag in your day.

This week we are discussing organizing hacks that actually work. I’m going to run through some hacks to implement and execute into your everyday life. Even if it takes some time to get there, remember this is not a race.

These systems can benefit you in the long run.

So, let’s go ahead and get into it!

Hack #1: Pay attention to what you’re bringing into your home.

So, there you are — you’re at the store or maybe you’re online shopping. And right before you click “checkout” or run your final payment, ask yourself, “can I identify that this item has a guaranteed place to live in my home?” This is the key!

If you are not 100% certain that said item(s) will have a home, it may need to stay where it is until there is more intentional thought behind it.

Hack #2: Focus on your drop zones.

A drop zone is a space in your home that is literally a dropping space for different things that end up becoming “clutter” and taking up space.

Drop zones happen when you have flat surfaces. Think about your dining room table, your stairs, your kitchen counters or any type of countertop. Any flat surface that’s easy for you to put something on and go. Begin to identify these places as drop zones.

When you know that you have drop zones, a great hack that you can do is clear the space and then put something decorative on it. For example, flowers on the table, a pretty basket, or something that is going to deter you from loading things up that would normally crowd space and be a drop zone for you.

Hack #3: Purge as often as possible.

Before you think it, we are not going to indulge for 24 hours and do whatever they do in the movie. However, we will be getting rid of some things.

First, let’s get some clarity on what purging is if you’re new to this. Purging, simply put, is: getting rid of things “you don’t need” and making space for the things you use, need and love.

Many people like to do their one time a year purge. Some, even twice a year. My recommendation: purge a little bit more often. Three times a year is the charm.

The more frequently you purge, the less time it begins to take. The hack to purging is starting with the easiest space or room for you. This would be the space where you are least attached to things.

It’s important to find and create a routine around taking a good inventory of your home to see if there are things that you can get rid of. If you haven’t used or missed it in over a year, that’s a pretty good indication that you should consider getting rid of it.

PURGE friends. It’s good for you!

Hack #4: My favorite: Do not leave a room empty handed.

Have you ever found your remote in your kitchen? Just me?

If you’re in the kitchen, there may be something in the kitchen that you could take to another part of your house. If you’re in your bedroom, there may be something that normally would live in the living room that you can transport out.

As you are leaving a different space in your home, grab something and put it where it’s supposed to go. This will help cut down on the clutter, help you cut down on miscellaneous things being all over the place and help you create a new habit of picking something up before you leave.

What’s that saying? — “Leave a space better than you found it!”

Those are the quick hacks that you can implement right away. Take your time and get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Let me know if this helped you.

Peace and Love!
