7 Expert Kitchen Drawer Organization Tips Anyone Can Follow From a Professional Organizer

Does every drawer in your kitchen seem to hold miscellaneous items? You can fix that. In this blog, I am sharing some professional organizer tips for organizing your kitchen drawers. Kitchen drawer organization is key to having a functional and organized kitchen. When your drawers are chaotic, your experience in the kitchen is usually just as chaotic. Let’s dive in!

Are your kitchen drawers a chaotic mess? You’re not alone. The kitchen is one of the busiest rooms in a home, so it makes sense that all the dishware, utensils, and tools get mixed up and put back wherever in the excitement.

However, having to fish through free-range silverware and jammed spatulas to find your peeler isn’t exactly ideal. Let’s dive into some expert professional organizer tips for kitchen drawer organization that are easy to implement and beautiful in their effectiveness.

Here are 6 kitchen drawer organization tips to help you have a more streamlined and organized kitchen.

Give Each Drawer a Single Purpose

You should have only one miscellaneous drawer, if any! The rest should have one or connected purposes to make finding things and putting stuff away much easier.

This means dedicating one drawer for utensils, another for gadgets, and yet another for spices. By giving each drawer a single purpose, you’ll know exactly where to find what you need, when you need it.

And of course, there is almost always a kitchen drawer that can and likely will be used as a junk drawer. In that instance, keeping miscellaneous things like, writing utensils, chargers, business cards, etc. are 100% acceptable… just as long as you can contain it all within that specified junk drawer.

Buy Drawer Organizers

Organizers are like drawers within drawers, separating contents and preventing items from shifting around. They are most popular for utensils, knives, and miscellaneous drawers, though they can serve a purpose in any drawer.

As a professional organizer, my go to drawer organizers are these plastic drawer organizers from either The Container Store or Amazon. Sometimes, depending on the client, we may even invest a few more dollars to get these bamboo drawer organizers.

Beyond these specific drawer organizers, sometime adjustable drawer organizers are a better fit for what you need. The left photo shows how you can use the adjustable drawer organizers whereas the right photo shows you how you can use individual drawer organizers.

Organize Your Kitchen

Use Magnets

Did you know that you can utilize vertical space even in a place as small as a kitchen drawer? Well, you can! Attach a magnetic strip inside a drawer to hold items like specialized knives, scissors, bottle openers, metallic drink markers, metal clips, metal straws, and more. These strips also make small metallic items easy to find and are one of the best storage solutions for items you don’t know what to do with.

Install Liners

Liners help your drawers’ organization by making their contents easier to see. They also prevent scratches and other damage that can occur from moving items in and out. Plus, you can buy cute liners to add some decoration to your kitchen!

Make or Write Labels

With some simple, aesthetic labeling, your drawers become much easier to locate. This will help you find things quickly and put things back where they go, which is especially useful when you have guests or kids assisting you in the kitchen.

You can write your labels using chalk labels and a chalk marker or use an actual label maker, just as long as things are labeled, you’ll be good to go.

Upgrade the Drawers Themselves

If all these organization hacks don’t cut it, the solution could be new or improved drawers. Small, shallow, or old drawers are more difficult and awkward to use for organization.

The best upgrade you can make is to get larger, deeper drawers that can hold more items and provide more vertical space for those organizers and magnet strips. As you design your drawers, consider nice features like soft closing. Soft-close devices do a lot for your kitchen, one of which is making your drawers nicer to use. If you love your drawers, you’re more likely to keep them organized.

Organizing your kitchen drawers can save you a lot of time and frustration. These pro tips are quick and easy to implement, and you’ll love the outcome.

This post is all about kitchen drawer organization tips you can implement now to get a better hold of your kitchen organization.
